hero of the month – april 2016

Each month we are picking someone we feel deserves some recognition, be they an established celebrity, or more of a local celeb – We want to thank these everyday heroes for the things they have achieved.

This month we looked close to home and have picked Ron Morris from Weird Fish Head Office. Some of you may be familiar with Ron, he is not only a fantastic member of the Distribution Centre team, but in his own time he also co-created, and painstakingly maintains the Weird Fish Car Park Garden.

the weird fish garden – wild flowers

One of our lovely stockists Haskins Garden Centre have been kind enough to help us out with our award winning car park garden. Apart from giving us some fantastic gardening tips in their guest blog by Alasdair Urquhart, they have also been sending us seeds. (See here for our broad beans blog). This month they sent us some stunning wild flower seeds.

Firstly we mixed all the different seed packets together to give us a nice even mix as we sewed them.

planting a spring hanging basket

Guest blog from Alasdair Urquhart, plant advisor at Haskins Garden Centres

“A well thought out hanging basket will lift any outdoor area, especially in spring. Here are some tips for creating one yourself and getting the best from it.” Alasdair Urquhart

1) Choose your basket.
Baskets come in all shapes and sizes, some even have a flat back that would be perfect for a wall mount. Choose one that suits your style. When hanging your basket, brackets and supports can be located on walls or sturdy garden frames, such as a pergola. Remember to position them so they are not a hazard to passing foot-traffic.

hero of the month – march 2016

Each month we are picking someone we feel deserves some recognition, be them an established celebrity, or more of a local celeb – We want to thank these everyday heroes for the things they have achieved.

On a visit down to our store in Newquay we stumbled across a sign for cider, being partial to a local tipple we eagerly followed the signs and discovered a neat little place called Haywood Farm. Greeted by the owner Tom Bray, we were instantly bowled over by his enthusiasm for his work, and knew he was our next Hero of the Month.
